Wine Gards need indeed a lot of steel wire. The use of sulfur against the attack of mushrooms makes that the corrosion of the wires is accelerated. Therefore, the alloy Galfan ( 95% Zn, 5% Al and addition of mischmetal) was introduced by the CRM -a Belgian institute by the way- that increases the lifetime of corrosion of a factor 4 compared to classical zinc.
